The idea of unconditional positive regard was a theory by Carl Rogers, basically saying you completely accept a person as they are, and hold them in the highest esteem just because they are who they are.
Can you imagine what it would feel like if each and every day everyone you came into contact with respected you, was excited to see you, supported you, and loved you without any conditions or criteria you have to meet?
Practice this within yourself. When you meet someone or speak to someone, look at them with utmost acceptance and love for who they are. Unconditionally accept them and honor them.
You know how it feels when people only like you for what you do for them. It doesn’t feel good and certainly doesn’t make you feel any better about yourself.
So turn it around, care for people just because they are. Appreciate the gift of being in contact with them.
If you regard people unconditionally and positively, you will likely find that you are less stressed and happier. And think about how that little action could possibly turn someone’s life around.
Yeah, it has that much power!
